The Lompoc Hospital Foundation Holiday Home Tour and Candlelight Tea is scheduled from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13.
This year we are offering, in addition to the beautifully decorated homes, a VIP tour of your new hospital. Guests will be able to see areas which are normally not accessible to the public. In addition, an elegant candlelight tea will be held at the hospital’s Ocean’s Seven Café. Chef Michael will, once again, offer his culinary treats for home tour participants. If you have never attended one of Chef Michael’s teas, you are in for an extraordinary experience.
A drawing will be held for a Santa Claus character fashioned by Della Rider, a gingerbread house crafted by Chef Michael, and beautiful gift baskets designed by Tonya Schultz.
The home of Ed and Dolores Lotspeich is decorated to perfection. The colors throughout the home are beautiful and soothing. As you enter, you will be impressed with the elegant nativity scene tucked away in the niche adjacent to the dining area. The home features antique furniture blended well with traditional pieces. Floors are a soft rough-shod maple.
The dining room features an antique table, which accommodates eight, and is set for the Lotspeich family dinner. The antique sideboard will showcase a Dickens collection. The living room is a cozy respite which features Dolores’ parent’s coffee table. A very unusual tea cart is perfect here, as friends and family gather for afternoon tea.
The family room and kitchen is a favorite spot in this home. A very unusual 1930s porcelain top table is a special family piece; Dolores remembers as a child enjoying a snack and cocoa at this table when she returned each day from school. Burgundy colors are soft and blend in with the colorful back yard which is viewed through the wall of windows. Be sure to check out the unusual television chest, which was designed by Ed, a master craftsman. The back yard is continually manicured by Dolores, who loves to garden.
The master bedroom is pleasing in a soft green, as is the master bath. The grandchild’s bedroom features a homemade quilt as well as a chest that belonged to Ed’s grandfather. The Christmas tree in this room will feature a sewing theme. There will be at least four trees in this home; an opportunity to glean a lot of decorating ideas
The spacious home of Dr. David and Julie McAninch is nestled in a grove of trees on a large parcel overlooking the east valley. This lovely home provides guests with an opportunity to view a creative remodeling project, blending the old with the new. The comfortable living room with its elegant wallpaper is spacious, with a wall of windows overlooking the back yard.
David is responsible for the professional design and construction of the landscape. The family room is conveniently located off of the living room and provides a pleasing area for the McAninch family. The huge master bedroom provides a fantastic view of the valley. It has been elegantly decorated using the same rose tones found in the living room. The master bedroom and bath connect to an outside veranda. Dr. David’s study is adjacent, decorated in a masculine royal blue. This also opens out onto a veranda overlooking the valley. The stairway is flanked with garlands and red bows. A huge Christmas tree is in the living room area. Be sure and check out the unique ragged painting of a luscious sienna on the walls in the entry way. This is a very comfortable and colorful home situated in a spacious and peaceful area. You wont want to leave this serenity.
The views at the home of Barry and Fran Shulman are spectacular; you can see for miles and miles. This home depicts the many travels which the Shulmans have enjoyed; there are artifacts and mementos from throughout the world.
A beautifully planted garden and fountain area elicits a calming effect as you pass through to the entrance of this home. The living room displays many of Fran’s gourds, which she designs and sells. These provide a splash of color on the white cabinets that surround the granite fireplace. African figures are artistically arranged on the fireplace hearth. An elegant Asian chest perfectly compliments the hand finished copper top table. The table is set for a family feast as they enjoy the view from this location.
Granite is a perfect contrast to the ash colored cabinets in the kitchen. Rough hewn oak floors are a nice addition to the ash cabinets. A window seat provides a perfect spot for another view from this home. An antique breakfront provides an ideal spot for more collectibles obtained from throughout the world. The cast fireplace provides a spot to cozy up on a rainy day and enjoy the fire and view.
A Japanese kimono is a focal point in the family room, which features an elegant grand piano. Here, again, African accents make their presence in this room. A huge master bedroom with a seating area and fireplace is another place where the Shulmans can enjoy the magnificent view. No matter where you go in this home, the view is fantastic. Barry, a retired judge, enjoys a well appointed office which features a roll-top desk. Be sure to see the unique antique mirror in the adjacent bathroom; it belonged to Barry’s grandmother.
Lucky guests enjoy a beautiful room which features and antique bed and an adjacent patio. Who wouldn’t want to come here to visit? Guests will enjoy this elegant home with so many artifacts from throughout the world as well as a view that is unsurpassed.
